Joey Garcia is a certified relationship educator and certified life coach who guides adults and teens into happier, more satisfying relationships, especially with themselves. In 2014, during Joey’s book tour for When Your Heart Breaks, It’s Opening to Love, she was invited to become the on-air Relationship Expert for Fox40-TV, a gig she still holds. She’s also been featured as a relationship expert in HuffPost, USA Today, Deutsche Welle, KVIE public television, Capital Public Radio, Global Woman TV Sweden, Australia’s Ticker News, and the Dear Prudence podcast. Joey’s advice column, “Ask Joey,” was a popular feature in the Sacramento News &
Review for 24 years until the newspaper’s demise in 2020. The recipient of literary fellowships to Paris and Spoleto, Italy, Joey’s poetry, essays, and short stories have been published in Hippocampus nonfiction magazine, Mslexia, POUi, the Brevity blog, the Tule Review, and Calyx, among others. Her writing has received a Pushcart nomination and awards from Writer’s Digest, The Caribbean Writer, and the Randall Jarrell International Poetry Competition.
Joey also coaches writers and authors on effective strategies to build their platforms and audiences. Her clients have been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal, Ms. magazine, CNN, and The Tamron Hall Show. Their bylines can be found in Smithsonian magazine, Ms. magazine, Today’s Parenting (The Today Show blog), and in literary journals. In 2017, Joey established the
first-ever international conference for creative writers in Belize, her birthplace, and created the country’s first-ever literary fellowship. An international speaker, her keynotes and talks have inspired audiences in New York, Los Angeles, Stockholm, Belize, and Albania.
She lives in California with a dog who loves to kiss strangers.
